Biographical note

John Rich graduated with an MA and MPhil from Oxford University, before gaining a PhD from Nottingham. Within the University of Nottingham he lectures in Classics and is also head of the School of Humanities. His works include the monography on 'Declaring War in the Roman Republic' (Brussels, 1976), 'Cassius Dio: The Augustan Settlement (Roman History 53-55.9)' (Warminster, 1990) and his latest book 'War, Expansion and Society in Early Rome' is to be published shortly.
