Welcome to the Oxbow Books Website

Oxbow Book News 75

New to Oxbow for this, the 75th Book News, are the undeniably stylish books of the Khalili Collections. Drawing on one of the world’s finest art collections these plush volumes examine in detail different artefacts and traditions, principally of Islamic art. With discounts across the board we are also able to offer them at more affordable prices than has hitherto been the case. We include their scheduled publications for 2008 in this Book News, but for a look at the impressive backlist please visit our website, or get in touch and ask us to send you a copy of their catalogue.

Our own premises are also looking a touch more stylish with a rotating display in the window featuring many of the great bargains to be found in the centre pages of this catalogue. If you are in Oxford we are now much more difficult to miss, so, if you wish to browse our books yourself please do pop in – visitors are always welcome! Our opening hours are 9 – 5.30, Monday – Friday.

Style and display are of course subjects which crop up regularly in archaeological discussions, just as in the hundreds of books offered in this Book News, from clothing or its absence in Tasmania, to feasting and conspicuous consumption in Prehistoric Britain, to the symbolism of hairstyles in Ancient Israel and to crowns in Egyptian funerary literature to name but a few examples. Indeed with such a wide range of historical and archaeological titles it is possible to find something to illustrate almost any trend in research – I hope you hit upon something which interests you.

Was there a Christian King called Lucius in 2nd century Britain? Its not as unlikely as you may think according to a new book, and theres more damaged books and bargains to get your hands on.
