Eleven papers, from a colloquium held in Münster in 2001, examine and contrast religious beliefs in the ancient Mediterranean, with emphasis on the Greek East. These include general regional overviews of cults in Phoenician, Greek and Roman Cyprus, Lydia, Phyrgia and the Near East as well as archaeological studies of specific cultic artefacts. These include statue fragments, inscriptions and other objects which have been found elsewhere in Europe but hail from or recall Mediterranean gods and rituals.
