Recherches sur les instruments aratoires et le travail du sol en Gaule Belgiqueby André MarbachMarbach's research on metal pieces relating to the use of ploughs in the Roman period in Gaul and Upper Germania demonstrates that the Romans had the means of turning the soil from the 2nd century onwards, signifying a major advancement in the agricultural system. The use of ploughing tools and working the soil is discussed alongside ethnographic evidence, but the majority of this volume analyses a catalogue of 119 metal pieces, 89 of which are from Gallia Belgica, given in the author's publication Les instruments aratoires des Gaules et de Germanie Superieure: Catalogue des pièces métalliques (BAR S1236, 2004). French text; short French, English and German summaries. 153p, b/w figs, tbs (Archaeopress BAR S1235, 2004) Browse other Roman Gaul books |
