Little research has been undertaken on the Christian treatment of ancient Greek mythology; myths from the period often metaphorically reconstruct the history and mentality of quarrels and conflicts between Christians and heathens. This book shows how the reaction of early Christianity to mythology was not always a categorical refusal, and how these myths may have been reshaped and redefined to represent Christian teachings. Often Christian and pagan teachings became closely interlinked in this way, yet they were also regarded as separate elements.
