Excavations at Kalavasos-Ayious

Todd, Ian A

This eighth volume in the series of final reports resulting from the Vasilikos Valley Project in the Lacarna area of the Cypriot southern coast focuses on the rescue excavation of Kalavasos-Ayious. Discoveries at this Chalcolithic site included pits containing structural debris, hearths and storage pits, and an intriguing a system of tunnels containing domestic refuse and figurine fragments. Much of the report comprises an illustrated catalogue of the features and finds, especially pottery, lithics, human figurines and the environmental remains. The concluding synthesis places the site within the cultural context of Cyprus during the 4th millennium BC, also making comparison with contemporary sites on Greece. 238p, 54 b/w pls, 66 b/w illus, maps (Vasilikos Valley Project 8, Studies in Mediterranean Archaeology LXXI:8, Åstroms 2004)
