Most archaeologists believe that the past belongs to everyone but in reality the issue is much more complicated as various parties frequently lay claim to ownership, sometimes also referred to as "stewardship", of particular sites, monuments and artefacts. Against Cultural Property approaches the subject from legal and economic perspectives and argues that existing concepts of property relations may not be appropriate for heritage management.
