Pseira VII: The Pseira Cemetery II: Excavation of the Tombs

edited by Philip P. Betancourt and Costis Davaras

This volume of the reports on the Temple University excavations at the Minoan cemetery on Pseira, a small island off the northeast coast of Crete, covers the excavation and cleaning of the 19 tombs that still exist at the Pseira cemetery. The cemetery is remarkable for the diversity of its communal tomb types including burials in cist graves built of vertical slabs, in small tombs constructed of fieldstones, in house tombs, and in jars. The artefacts included clay vases, stone vessels, obsidian, bronze tools, jewellery, and other objects. 192p, 5 b/w figs, 67 b/w pls (Prehistory Monographs 6, INSTAP Academic Press, 2003)

Review Quote

"The Pseira cemetery volumes will for long serve as standard reference books for many subjects not only of Cretan, but also broader Aegean archaeology."
