Prehistoric Aphrodisias

by Martha Sharp Joukowsky

Explorations by American archaeologists of the Greco-Roman landscape of Caria in the early 1960s led to the discovery of large amounts of prehistoric material, and a tell-site close to the ruins of the classical city of Aphrodisias. Excavations were implemented, and the results of this work have contributed greatly to our overall understanding of the Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze Age settlements which preceded developments in the Classical period. Volume 1 contains information on research objectives, techniques, stratigraphy, artifact industries and inter-site studies; Volume 2 has the bibliography, catalogue, appendix and index. 762p, 2 volumes, 527 illus (Université Catholique de Louvain 1996)
