Cadbury Castle: The Hillfort and Landscapesby Richard TaborThis book traces the conditions for the development of the Iron Age hillfort at Cadbury Castle, the violent suppression of its population in the first century AD and its major refortification in the post-Roman period. Using the evidence from both the famous Alcock excavations of the 1960s as well as new evidence from the extensive survey of the surrounding landscape carried out by the South Cadbury Environs Project, the book deals fully with the hillfort within its landscape environment. The results are startling, and include some significant departures in interpretation from earlier studies of hillforts such as Danebury and Maiden Castle. 190p b/w illus col pls (The History Press 2008) Browse other Iron Age Europe books |
