Rathcroghan: Archaeological and Geophysical Survey in a Ritual Landscapeby John Wadell, Joseph Fenwick and Kevin BartonThis book is the result of a major programme of archaeological field research at Rathcrogan in County Roscommon on the west of Ireland. While this is first and foremost a reading of the cultural landscape, it also includes an in-depth analysis of some of the more prestigious monuments, of which none is more extraordinary and iconic than Rathcrogan Mound itself. The analysis suggests that Rathcroghan Mound is no simple barrow, but instead an entombment of earlier buildings and the centrepiece of a cluster of funerary monuments contained within an enclosure of truly enormous size. 249p b/w and col figs (Wordwell 2009) Browse other Prehistoric Ireland books |
