Le Site Mesolithique des Baraquettes

Surmely, F

This detailed study of the Mesolithic sites of Baraquettes located in the Cantal mountains of central France begins by looking at the geological and geomorphological background to the area as well as the history of research. The Mesolithic rockshelter sites of the area are examined in detail including a description of their location and position, as well as archaeological and, especially, organic finds. The synthesis of evidence from these sites summarises the nature of occupation and includes a characterisation of the camps, as well as broader discussions of altitude and other environmental factors, the use and circulation of flint and the transition to the Neolithic in the region. French text. 282p, 14 col pls, many b/w figs, tbs (Société Préhistorique Française Mémoire 32, 2003)
