Andrea Scacciati

Details

This monograph, the result of many years’ research, is the first to focus on the artistic career of Andrea Scacciati (1644-1710), who, with Bartolomeo Bimbi, was one of the most prominent still-life painters in late Baroque Florence. Scacciati was very popular with the Medici and the leading patrician families of Tuscany. His exquisite works, mainly depicting floral compositions, are characterized by a consummate painting style and striking chromatic effects. The scholarly introductory essays are accompanied by a large selection of illustrations. The author examines in detail Scacciati’s biography and his vast output, comprising nearly 120 paintings, of which 55 are reproduced in color.
