This volume reports on the results of several seasons of field survey, presenting the basic data relating to more than 690 registered sites or other features, many of considerable archaeological interest, and some unique within Nubia. While largely limited to the results of surface survey the data provides a basis for more synthetic discussions of the long-term development of the region's settlement structures, presented here as period-based discussions ranging from the early Holocene to the early 20th century.
