This study explores various literary and epigraphic sources for evidence of bilingualism within Etruscan and Latin languages. Greco-Latin literature, Etruscan epigraphy and Latin epigraphy in Etruria are discussed in detail to discern the extent to which Latin penetrated into Etruscan society and culture, what this meant for the Etruscan language and for the Romanisation of Etruria and Italy as a whole. Jean Hadas-Lebel shows how the Latin epigraphy from Etruria in particular provides uncontestable evidence of an underlying bilingualism. French text.
