Archaeological Investigations along the A1 Dualling Scheme, Loughbrickland to Beech Hill, Co. Down, N. Ireland (2005)

Details

This report presents the results of one year's monitored topsoil stripping and excavation in advance of a 10 kilometre development of the A1. Two sites of particular interest were identified. The first comprised three Neolithic rectangular houses and a Bronze Age barrow cemetery as well as an early Bronze Age occupation area. The second comprised a destroyed cairn, five ring ditches (three of which contained burials), a cremation in a woven structure, several other token burials and a single post-marked burial, which was associated with a Bronze Age funerary vessel containing a cremation.
