This introduction to "the Celts" was first published in 2007 as a volume of Reclam's renowned Universalbibliothek and is now presented in an English version, with some revisions and additional footnotes. There are many introductions to the Celts and to matters Celtic, most of which have a concentration on archaeology and material culture. Wolgang Meid, however, a linguist and philologist, stresses the non-material aspects, relying more on historical sources, and on the literary tradition in the extant Celtic languages.
