The Yarimburgaz Cave on the coast of the Sea of Marmara yielded limited initial Palaeolithic results during 1986 excavation, which were investigated more throughly from 1988-1990 by the authors of this volume. These excavations abundant and diverse vertebrate fossils in association with what are clearly human-produced artefacts. This study reports and synthesises a wide range of geological, palaeontological and archaeological findings from these campaigns. They reveal usage of the cave by both humans and bears, although with limited interaction, and culturally provide evidence of transition between the Lower and Middle Palaeolithic eras.
