Tales which deal with the relationship between father and daughter are among the longest, most complex and most common in the Confessio Amantis. This work argues that in looking at issues of the father's authority over his daughter Gower in fact creates vehicles to look at other relationships of authority, such as King and subjects and even between the author and his text.
