John Wyclif

Details

John Wyclif has been seen as the author of Britain's most important heretical movements, as a progenitor of the Hussite movement in Bohemia, and for that matter of protestantism full-stop, and as a political thinker, backer of monarchy and associate of John of Gaunt. The sheer range of his thought and the number of disciplines his study crosses means that it is often difficult to get a coherent picture of Wyclif, particularly at an introductory level as is attempted here. Stephen Lahey argues that it is Wyclif's strict adherence to an Augustinian realism which underlies the various philosophical positions which he took up.
