Oxbow says: The early history of the Silk Road, before it became firmly established as a conduit for people, ideas and goods between the east and west, has not been well explored. Collating and interpreting a wealth of archaeological and linguistic evidence, including much only previously available in Russian, Kuzmina traces the people and cultures of the Eurasian Steppe from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age. The book examines such topics as the economy and food production, metals, the development of wheeled transport and chariots, the domestication and use of the horse and camel, nomadic migrations and, of course, the nature and intensity of early cultural exchange along routes across the Steppe.
