Travel in Egypt

This month Oxbow welcomes the Association for the Study of Travel in Egypt and the Near East to its list of distributed publishers. The Association's three currently available titles are in stock, offered at a special price. With over 250 members ASTENE is dedicated to the critical study of early travellers, from Herodotus to T E Lawrence, and we have also selected a number of books that may be of related interest.

Top Ten Bestsellers of 2003

Looking back at our bestsellers from 2003 it seems that Egyptology bargains unsurprisingly swept the board, with Greece and Rome also making an impact. But there were a few surprises in the list: who would have thought an osteology manual could be so very popular!

The Wizard of Sussex - Charles Dawson and the Piltdown Hoax

In the first years of the 20th century Charles Dawson was in possession of one of the most famous names in archaeology and palaeontology. Yet he is arguably more famous now than he was then. The reason for this? His greatest achievement, the Piltdown Man, was proved a fraud and after years of debate and controversy the finger of blame is now pointing straight at its discoverer.

Of all the new books that have passed over the desks of the Oxbow staff this month, these, for whatever reason, are the ones that grabbed their attention.
