Current Archaeology Live 2016

Last weekend Oxbow Books had the pleasure of attending Current Archaeology Live 2016. Hosted by the magazine of the same name, this conference is attended by many archaeologists, from the hobbyist to the most respected experts.

Oxbow banner book stallThe two days are filled with lectures on the latest finds and ground-breaking research given by leading experts, an archaeology fair which included some great bargains from ourselves, and a thrilling award ceremony which took place on the Friday evening. From Roman warfare to experimental archaeology there were plenty of thought-provoking sessions and plenty of excitement. We were also delighted that Ronan Toolis was able to speak about Trusty’s Hill, the topic of his forthcoming book to be published by Oxbow later this year.

This leads me onto to some very exciting news!

The Current Archaeology Book of the Year was awarded to Oxbow’s very own, The Archaeology of Caves in Ireland by Marion Dowd. The award was voted for by the readers of Current Archaeology which makes this win all the more special. We would like to thank all the voters and everyone who helped spread the word. We are incredibly pleased as you can imagine – congratulations Marion!

And the good news doesn’t stop there!

The award for Archaeologist of the Year went to Roberta Gilchrist for her work on Glastonbury Abbey. Roberta and The Society of Antiquaries have recently published a fantastic book which we are thrilled to be distributing, Glastonbury Abbey: archaeological investigations 1904–79. As the first female to win this prestigious award I’m sure you would all join me in congratulating her on this great achievement.
