Job title:  Marketing Coordinator

Company:  Casemate UK & Oxbow Books

Are you looking for your first marketing or publishing role? If so, we are looking for a Marketing Coordinator to join our friendly team at Casemate UK and Oxbow Books. This is a really varied entry-level role, supporting the marketing and publicity across our lists, and with responsibility for social media marketing and more. As a small, independent publisher, you’ll find lots of opportunity here to grow your skills, contribute ideas, and get involved in many different aspects of marketing. We publish a diverse list of Humanities books – our own, plus those of publishers whom we distribute for – so you’ll be working across a wide subject mix.

Casemate UK and sister company Oxbow Books are part of the Casemate Group, a specialist history publisher and book distributor, providing a range of sales, marketing and distribution services for both our own books and for a growing group of independent publishers throughout the world. Casemate UK is a leading publisher in the fields of military history (from ancient civilisations to modern warfare), serving both the trade and academic markets. Oxbow Books is one of the world’s leading specialist publishers of archaeology, ancient history and medieval studies. We are privileged to work with many academic and trade publishers, distributing books spanning humanities and social sciences disciplines, from art and photography to fiction and modern history.

What will you be doing?

Supporting key marketing activities for Casemate UK and Oxbow books, helping to grow our brand profile and our communities, and proactively contributing to marketing campaigns, reporting, and communication. You’ll be supporting the Head of Marketing and Senior Marketing Executive, as required. In particular, the job holder will be responsible for working with reviewers and authors to generate publicity for published and distributed titles, and for managing the Casemate UK and Oxbow Books social media channels to build brand awareness and sales.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing schedules and plans for publicity and social media activity, working with colleagues to ensure that appropriate marketing activities are implemented for new books
  • Writing and designing email campaigns for different customer segments, including monitoring success rates
  • Day-to-day management of social media channels: managing the CUK and OXB Twitter and Facebook feeds and blogs – increasing followers and engagement through content creation, and implementing and managing paid promotions to a set budget
  • Liaison with authors and specialist reviewers to build successful relationships – including processing review requests, promoting new books available, and circulating reviews received
  • Working with key authors to identify publicity opportunities, including writing press releases, managing blog content, and contacting specialist societies and groups
  • Working with design colleagues to create attractive banner adverts and other collateral
  • Managing Amazon paid advertising and promotional content
  • Submitting The Bookseller previews each month, and managing any book prize entries
  • Circulating reports and insights on email and social media campaigns (you’ll need to develop an understanding of key customer segments and their motivations)
  • Providing support to the sales and marketing team as required, with the objective of increasing book sales
  • Ensuring that book information circulated externally is of the highest quality and targeted to market, be that through digital or print channels.

A typical day might include: communicating with key authors; uploading review quotes to our internal database; writing engaging tweets and working with Design colleagues to produce some eye-catching new visuals; creating and deploying ‘new titles’ emails for customers and reviewers; proactively contacting listservs and online communities or societies about relevant new titles; implementing and monitoring Amazon keyword advertising and page content; or supporting the catalogue process by editing blurbs and proofreading. It is a varied, busy and interesting role.

What are we looking for?

Personal qualities:

  • We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills (written and verbal), attention to detail, and a proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • You’ll need to be as comfortable writing creative copy as you are organising spreadsheets and data. An eye for design is also a plus.
  • We are a small team, and it’s a varied role, so it’s essential that you can work well with others as well as independently.
  • We are looking for a colleague with a positive, can-do attitude to work and to customers, who can use their own initiative, and who has a desire to work together to produce the best results possible.

Experience and qualifications:

  • This is an entry-level role, so aptitude, enthusiasm and transferable experience matters most to us. Some experience working in an office/professional environment is desirable, but the role would also suit a recent graduate with good transferable skills gained through relevant projects and experiences.
  • Some demonstrable experience with social media is required. An understanding of marketing would be an advantage. You don’t have to have worked in publishing or in a marketing role, but you’ll have a genuine interest in books and learning about the industry and be able to demonstrate skills and experience that fit the qualities above.
  • You’ll need to be confident in using Microsoft Office software, as well as with social media platforms. It’s an advantage if you’ve used in-house databases, scheduling software, WordPress or design packages, but we’ll give you full training on these.

If you think you have the skills and qualities we are looking for in a Marketing Coordinator, we’d love to hear from you.

Please apply with your CV and a covering letter (this is essential) to, telling us how you fit the description above, and why you are interested in this position. Closing date is midday on Friday 21st January 2022.

This is a permanent, full time position. The team are currently working remotely due to Covid, but this role will ordinarily be based at our offices in Oxford.
