This work aims to provide an up to date synthesis of the late Mesolithic across the entire Italian penninsula and an analysis of the Neolithic transition. It gathers all available infomation, published and unpublished, on Late Mesolithic finds, reviews the general and specific characteristics of the period in the Italian penninsula, and analyses the distribution of sites in their environmental context, to create a chronological and geographic framework.
