This book presents a detailed examination of the reception and recopying of the (apocryphal) Martyrology of Saint Jerome in the Early Middle Ages. The Martyrology comprises a calendrically organised list of names of saints, and offers a rahter different form of "access to the sacred" in a primarily relic focused age. The author finds that the manuscript tradition centres around a group of individuals who actively promoted a form of name-centred piety, including Willibrord-Clement, Winifried-Boniface and Witiza-Benedict of Aniane. all of whom had ties to the Carolingian court.
