Windgather Press

Windgather Press is a publishing imprint founded by Richard Purslow and now owned by Oxbow Books. The press specialises in publishing accessible and attractive books and journals on landscape history, landscape archaeology, and the history of Britain’s countryside. The publications are designed not only for those professionally engaged in the subject, but also those with a serious amateur interest in landscape research.

The name comes from Windgather Rocks, a prominent gritstone edge on the Cheshire/Derbyshire Border, close to where the press was originally founded in Bollington. Well-known amongst climbers and walkers, the edge overlooks a landscape of seventeenth and eighteenth century field-walls and scattered farms typical of the western Pennine edge.
